ABB Files Patent For Inverter Control Method And System To Improve Dynamic Stability Of Power Conversion

ABB has filed a patent with the China National Intellectual Property Administration for a method, controller, computer program, and inverter system designed to improve the dynamic stability of inverter operation. The application was published under number CN121012382A and filed in May 2025.

The invention relates to advanced control techniques for operating an inverter used in generator-driven power systems, with the goal of enhancing stability during power conversion processes.

According to the patent abstract, the inverter includes a DC link with a DC-link capacitor and is configured to convert three-phase AC voltage generated by a generator into a DC-link voltage applied to the capacitor.

The proposed method includes receiving a DC-link voltage reference value and measuring the actual DC-link voltage currently present in the system. Based on these two inputs, a stator parameter reference is calculated.

A key feature of the invention is the introduction of a dynamic stability term, which is added to the calculated stator parameter reference to improve system responsiveness and stability.

The modified stator parameter reference is then used to generate switching signals for the inverter, which are subsequently applied to control inverter operation.

By integrating real-time voltage feedback with a dynamic stability adjustment mechanism, the technology aims to enhance inverter performance, improve operational stability, and ensure more reliable power conversion in generator-driven electrical systems.
