Honeywell has introduced a new high-performance MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU), the HGuide i700, designed for high-precision navigation across air, land, and marine autonomous systems. The device integrates a 3-axis MEMS accelerometer and a 3-axis MEMS gyroscope, delivering near-navigation-grade performance without requiring export licensing.
The HGuide i700 is built with a compact, low size-weight-and-power (SWaP) design, making it suitable for space-constrained and power-sensitive applications. It offers robust performance in challenging environments while remaining within a commercial export framework, providing system integrators with a flexible solution for global deployment.
Based on the same high-reliability sensor and electronics architecture used in Honeywell’s Honeywell HG3900 IMU, the HGuide i700 is optimized for long-endurance navigation in GNSS-denied or GNSS-degraded environments. While it offers strong performance for commercial applications, higher dynamic range requirements are addressed by the export-controlled HG3900 platform.
According to Matt Picchetti, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Navigation and Sensors, the increasing demand for autonomous systems, robotics, and precision-guided technologies is driving the need for flexible, high-accuracy MEMS inertial sensors. He noted that the HGuide i700 simplifies system development by reducing integration complexity while maintaining strong resilience in GNSS-challenged environments.
The new IMU is designed to shorten development cycles and accelerate deployment through its rugged design and low power consumption. It is suitable for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and defense-related applications, including mobile mapping and surveying systems, long-endurance unmanned ground and surface vehicles, robotics, stabilization and pointing systems, and precision-focused industrial automation in harsh operating conditions.
