ABB will participate in the 2025 China International Maritime Exhibition (Marintec China 2025), held in Shanghai from December 2 to 5, showcasing its latest electrification, automation, and digital solutions for the maritime industry. The event focuses on sustainable development, innovation, and collaboration in global shipping.

Shipping accounts for around 90% of global trade transport and approximately 3% of global CO₂ emissions. Driven by tightening IMO decarbonization regulations, the industry is accelerating its shift toward clean energy, digitalization, and higher operational efficiency.

ABB has been active in marine engineering for decades, pioneering ship electrification since the 1950s, introducing AC drive technology in the 1970s, and developing early electric propulsion systems in the 1980s.

At this year’s exhibition, ABB will present an integrated “bridge-to-propeller” portfolio covering propulsion, power systems, automation, and smart operations.

Key highlights include energy-efficient propulsion and power solutions. ABB’s permanent magnet shaft generator system can improve fuel efficiency and reduce fuel consumption by up to 4%, especially when combined with the ABB ACS880 drive system.

ABB ACS880 is widely used in marine propulsion and energy applications, offering high reliability and modular design for harsh marine environments.

Azipod propulsion system enables 360-degree rotation through an underwater pod design, improving vessel maneuverability and reducing fuel consumption by up to 20%, making it a benchmark solution for cruise ships, ferries, and offshore vessels.

ABB Dynafin is a biomimetic propulsion system inspired by whale tail motion, designed to significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce propulsion losses through advanced blade control.

ABB SACE Infinitus is a solid-state circuit breaker capable of interrupting faults in microseconds, greatly enhancing the safety and responsiveness of DC power systems in marine applications.

In automation and digitalization, ABB will also showcase DP2 control systems, AC500 PLCs, and B&R solutions, supporting propulsion control, power management, and vessel automation, combined with AI-based predictive maintenance technologies to improve operational efficiency.

Through interactive demonstrations and technical seminars, ABB will further highlight its innovations in green shipping, smart control, and digital operations, supporting the maritime industry’s transition toward a low-carbon and intelligent future.
