ABB has announced a leadership change in its executive team, appointing Christian Nilsson as Chief Financial Officer and member of the Executive Committee effective February 1, 2026. He will succeed Timo Ihamuotila, who has decided to step down from the Executive Committee and leave the company by the end of 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.
ABB CEO Morten Wierod stated that Timo Ihamuotila has played a key role in supporting the company’s transformation into a more focused and higher-performing industrial technology leader, strengthening financial operations across a decentralized structure. He expressed gratitude for his contributions and welcomed Christian Nilsson to the Executive Committee, emphasizing ABB’s continued strategic focus on leadership in electrification and automation.
Timo Ihamuotila noted that after more than eight years at ABB, he is ready to pursue new opportunities outside operational roles, expressing appreciation for the collaboration and achievements during the company’s transformation phase.
Christian Nilsson, currently CFO of ABB’s Electrification business, said he is honored to take on the new role, highlighting his experience within the company’s decentralized operating model and his commitment to supporting ABB’s continued growth and market leadership.
Nilsson joined ABB in 2017 and has held senior financial leadership roles across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Prior to ABB, he held executive finance positions at DSM-Firmenich and TE Connectivity, and spent more than a decade at General Electric. He holds an MBA in International Finance from the European University in Brussels and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Luther College in Iowa.
From February 1, 2026, ABB’s Executive Committee will include: Morten Wierod (CEO), Christian Nilsson (CFO), Carolina Granat (Chief Human Resources Officer), Karin Lepasoon (Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer), Mathias Gaertner (General Counsel & Company Secretary), Giampiero Frisio (President Electrification), Brandon Spencer (President Motion), and Peter Terwiesch (President Process Automation).
