ABB has launched its next-generation flagship product, the SACE Emax 3 low-voltage air circuit breaker, at the 8th China International Import Expo. The new solution is designed for high-power-demand environments such as data centers and advanced manufacturing facilities, helping improve grid stability, cybersecurity, and operational resilience amid rapidly growing AI workloads and infrastructure expansion.

Next-Generation Protection For Critical Infrastructure

As an upgraded version of the widely deployed Emax 2 series, Emax 3 introduces advanced technologies aimed at minimizing outage risks. It integrates high-precision power sensors and real-time data analytics to continuously monitor load conditions, system health, and temperature.

The system enables remote access and on-device visualization through a touchscreen interface, providing real-time monitoring, early warnings, and predictive maintenance recommendations.

Enhanced Cybersecurity And Arc Flash Protection

Emax 3 is the world’s first air circuit breaker certified under IEC 62443 Security Level 2, strengthening its protection against cybersecurity threats in critical infrastructure environments.

It also features an advanced integrated arc flash detection system, significantly improving operational safety and system reliability.

Addressing Rising Power Risks In The AI Era

Massimiliano Cifalitti stated that modern critical infrastructure requires highly resilient power systems. He emphasized that increasing electrification demand requires solutions that ensure uninterrupted operations and proactive energy management.

He added that Emax 3 represents a major innovation in energy resilience, enabling predictive maintenance and helping customers prevent the root causes of power outages.

Data Center Downtime Risks Continue To Rise

Industry analysis from Uptime Intelligence shows that power-related failures account for more than half of all digital infrastructure outages. Over 50% of major downtime events result in losses exceeding $100,000, while around 20% of operators report losses above $1 million in their most recent incidents.

These findings highlight the growing importance of intelligent power protection systems in mission-critical environments.

Market Demand Driven By AI And Industrial Expansion

Lara Cortinovis noted that customer concerns are increasingly focused on grid instability, human error, and cybersecurity risks.

She emphasized that solutions like Emax 3 are essential to strengthening infrastructure resilience and ensuring safe, reliable operations in mission-critical applications.

China Market Focus On Smart Power Infrastructure

Yang Rong stated that the rapid development of AI and advanced manufacturing is placing unprecedented pressure on power continuity and system reliability.

He added that the Emax 3 breaker integrates sensing technologies and intelligent algorithms to enable predictive maintenance and deliver advanced cybersecurity protection, supporting data centers and industrial facilities in achieving safer and more sustainable operations toward a net-zero future.
