On January 21, ABB Robotics held the official awarding ceremony for the first batch of CR certifications covering its full robot product portfolio at Shanghai Electrical Apparatus Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd.
The event was attended by Chen Yan, Deputy Director of the Putuo District Market Supervision Administration; Ann-Simone von Leesen, former President of ABB Robotics and Discrete Automation Division and strategic advisor to ABB Robotics; Han Chen, Senior Vice President of ABB Group and President of ABB Robotics China; Xu Feng, Head of R&D for ABB Robotics China; Wu Yehua, Chairman and President of Shanghai Electrical Apparatus Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. and Chairman of the Robot Certification Alliance; and Zheng Junqi, Director of Shanghai Robot Industry Technology Research Institute.
As the first foreign-invested company to apply for CR certification across its entire robot portfolio, ABB Robotics’ certification reflects strong recognition of its product safety and reliability. It also marks an important step in the maturity and international alignment of China’s robot testing and certification system.
Chai Yi, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Robot Industry Technology Research Institute, presented an overview of ABB Robotics’ certification results during the ceremony.
During the certification presentation, Zheng Junqi awarded CR certificates for the IRB 1600 series and CRB 1810 series to Han Chen and Xu Feng. The event was witnessed by industry leaders and regulatory representatives, marking a key milestone for the sector.
The certification represents not only a rigorous technical evaluation of ABB’s robotics products but also highlights the advancement of China’s robotics industry toward standardized and high-quality development.
Wu Yehua stated that CR certification serves as both a “market passport” and an “industry accelerator,” emphasizing that ABB’s achievement sets a strong benchmark for the sector. He added that future efforts will continue to improve certification systems and expand into emerging areas such as humanoid robotics, fostering a more open and collaborative global robotics ecosystem.
Ann-Simone von Leesen noted that this certification marks an important milestone since ABB Robotics began deeper cooperation with Shanghai Electrical Apparatus Research Institute. She emphasized ABB’s long-term commitment to China and expressed plans to further strengthen local R&D and manufacturing capabilities, contribute to global standards development, and explore next-generation robotics technologies.
Chen Yan congratulated ABB Robotics on receiving the certification and acknowledged the contributions of the testing and certification institutions in advancing industry standards. She expressed hope that these institutions will continue to support high-quality development in the robotics sector.
As China’s robotics industry becomes increasingly integrated into global value chains, CR certification is emerging as a key technical bridge for international market access and mutual recognition of standards.
The successful ceremony not only reinforces ABB Robotics’ leading position in the Chinese market but also demonstrates the growing authority and global influence of China’s robotics testing and certification system.
