The ABB RET670 is a dedicated transformer protection and control IED designed for protecting power transformers and associated high-voltage equipment. 2. What is the main protection function of the RET670?

5. Can the RET670 be used for three-winding transformer protection?

For a three-winding transformer, engineering must correctly define CT ratios, transformer winding connections, phase compensation, grounding arrangements and protected zones. The exact number of analog inputs and protection functions depends on the hardware and configuration associated with the particular ordering code.

6. What backup protection functions are available in the RET670?
In addition to differential protection, RET670 can provide phase overcurrent and residual overcurrent protection. The CT secondary circuits should then be checked for correct ratio, polarity, phase sequence, wiring and continuity. Transformer vector-group and compensation settings should also be verified against the actual transformer nameplate and engineering documentation. If the differential current appears only during energization, the inrush restraint settings and transformer switching conditions should be examined. Communication faults should be checked separately by verifying the communication module, network connection, protocol settings and station configuration. Hardware replacement should normally be considered only after external wiring and configuration have been confirmed to be correct.
