1. What is the ABB RETA-02 68840830 used for?

2. Which ABB drives are compatible with the RETA-02?

4. What Ethernet communication speed does the RETA-02 support?

It supports both half-duplex and full-duplex communication for compatible Ethernet connections. PROFINET IO uses 100 Mbps full-duplex operation. The module uses an RJ-45 connector and can be connected using suitable CAT 5 Ethernet cabling, with a maximum network segment length of approximately 100 meters under the specified conditions.

5. How is the RETA-02 connected to the ABB drive?
The RETA-02 is installed into the designated option slot on the drive’s control board. A 34-pin parallel bus connector provides the internal connection between the communication adapter and the drive control electronics, while the RJ-45 connector provides the external Ethernet network connection. The module receives its operating power from the drive control board, so it does not normally require a separate external power supply.

6. What control and monitoring functions can be performed through RETA-02?
Through the Ethernet connection, the RETA-02 can transfer drive start and stop commands, run-enable commands, speed or torque references and other control information. It can also provide drive status information, actual values and diagnostic information to the PLC or supervisory system. Drive parameters can be accessed through the communication network, and drive faults can also be reset remotely when supported by the drive configuration. 7. How should the RETA-02 IP address and network parameters be configured?

DHCP can be enabled when automatic IP configuration is required, while manual network configuration can be used when fixed industrial Ethernet addressing is preferred. Depending on the operating mode and installation, configuration can be performed through drive parameters, the module’s DIP switch settings or the relevant PROFINET engineering tools. The IP address and device name must be consistent with the PLC or network controller configuration.

8. What should be checked if the RETA-02 cannot communicate with the PLC?
Start by checking the RJ-45 Ethernet connection, network cable, link/activity indication and the module status LEDs. Confirm that the selected protocol is correct and that the PLC configuration matches the RETA-02 operating mode. For PROFINET, check the device name, IP address, GSD/GSDML configuration and assigned network parameters. For Modbus/TCP, verify the IP address, TCP communication settings and register configuration. If the module itself is not recognized by the drive, check the 34-pin connection, option-slot installation, drive compatibility and module status before replacing the adapter.
