ABB’s Fidas24 gas analyzer has received CSA certification for hazardous area use in the United States and Canada, expanding its compliance footprint for industrial gas monitoring applications.

Fidas24 is a flame ionization detector designed to measure total hydrocarbon content. It helps optimize process performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance safety for personnel and assets. The system operates by burning sample gas in a hydrogen flame and measuring the resulting ion current. With a compact design and a robust Ex-p pressurized explosion-proof enclosure, Fidas24 already complies with ATEX and IECEx standards, making it suitable for explosive gas zones (Zone 1 and 2) as well as combustible dust environments (Zone 21 and 22).

Fabrice Spriestersbach, Product Manager at ABB Measurement & Analytics, said the CSA certification reinforces ABB’s commitment to delivering safe and reliable solutions, while maintaining the analyzer’s core advantages in accuracy, ease of use, and simple installation for North American hazardous applications.

Designed with operator safety in mind, Fidas24 supports full remote operation via Ethernet-connected HMI, reducing the need for personnel to enter hazardous zones. In the event of maintenance alerts or system faults, operators can use ABB’s My Measurement Assistant+ solution to scan a dynamic QR code, generating AI-based diagnostic reports that resolve up to 80% of technical issues within minutes. The system also improves first-time fix rates by up to 50% and allows remote troubleshooting without requiring explosion-proof smartphones.

Fidas24 supports environmental compliance requirements set by regulatory bodies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Canadian environmental authorities. By continuously monitoring total hydrocarbon levels in real time, it helps reduce volatile organic compound emissions and their impact on health and the environment. With a response time of under 1.5 seconds, the analyzer enables rapid detection of emission peaks and supports precise reporting and process optimization.

Ease of use is a key advantage of the system. It operates using existing plant instrument air for purging, eliminating the need for nitrogen supply logistics. Its compact design and simple configuration enable fast installation and commissioning without additional system integration.

To reduce maintenance complexity, Fidas24 includes automatic calibration capabilities. By controlling external valves connected to calibration gas cylinders, the analyzer performs self-calibration, ensuring consistent measurement accuracy over time.

ABB continues to advance electrification and automation technologies to support more sustainable and efficient industrial operations. With over 140 years of innovation and approximately 110,000 employees worldwide, ABB is listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

ABB’s automation business delivers solutions in automation, electrification, and digitalization across industries including energy, water, materials, manufacturing, and transportation. With around 26,000 employees in its automation division, ABB supports process, hybrid, and marine industries in achieving safer, more efficient, and more sustainable operations.
