According to information from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, ABB has filed a patent titled “Method and System for Calibration Using a Touchscreen,” with publication number CN121443423A, submitted in July 2023.
The patent describes a method and system for touchscreen-based calibration used to accurately align peripheral devices associated with industrial robots.
The method includes detecting at least three non-collinear touch points on a touchscreen (30) via a touch component (14) when a conveyor (20) is in a first position. These points are used to obtain a first set of coordinates in the robot coordinate system and a second set of coordinates in the touchscreen coordinate system.
The conveyor is then moved from the first position to a second position. When the conveyor is in this new position, the system captures at least three additional non-collinear touch points on the touchscreen, generating a third set of coordinates in the robot coordinate system and a fourth set of coordinates in the touchscreen coordinate system.
Finally, the system determines the conveyor’s coordinates in the robot coordinate system by integrating the first, second, third, and fourth coordinate sets.
This multi-position, multi-point calibration approach improves coordinate mapping accuracy between touchscreen inputs and robot reference systems, enhancing the precision, efficiency, and reliability of industrial automation and robotic peripheral alignment.
