The rapid rise of AI computing is reshaping global industrial automation. ABB’s 2025 results reflect this momentum, with full-year profit exceeding $6.3 billion and orders reaching $36.8 billion, up 17%. Q4 orders rose 36% to $10.3 billion, surpassing the $10 billion mark for the first time. Motion revenue reached a record $2.26 billion, up 11%.

China remains a key growth driver.

“I greatly appreciate China’s long-term planning and vision,” said Brandon Spencer, ABB Motion President. “China’s energy transition is central to ABB’s technologies, making it one of our most important markets.”

ABB Motion continues to advance its “In China, For China” strategy. Nearly 90% of motors and drives sold in China are locally produced, covering design, engineering, manufacturing, and service. Around 20% of ABB’s global R&D workforce is based in China, supporting local innovation.

Spencer said localization enables faster response to market needs and stronger competitiveness. China accounts for about 15% of Motion’s global revenue.

ABB also highlights strong channel networks in China, with local partners improving delivery speed through regional inventory. The company continues to focus on high reliability and long-term performance, particularly in heavy industry applications.

Sustainability remains a core focus. ABB Motion has installed over 13 million drives and high-efficiency motors in China, helping save 569 billion kWh of electricity, equivalent to four years of Beijing’s total consumption.

Looking ahead, ABB is increasing investment in China under the 15th Five-Year Plan, expanding production capacity, strengthening R&D, and developing a broader drive portfolio for industries including HVAC, manufacturing, and data centers.

The company is also integrating AI into engineering, design, and operations, while using industrial data to develop asset performance management solutions.

ABB expects stronger growth in China in 2026. Recent leadership meetings in Zhuhai highlighted opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, where ABB is active in infrastructure projects.

Spencer also noted that the upcoming APEC 2026 in Shenzhen aligns with ABB’s focus on innovation, growth, and sustainability.
