Siemens has strengthened its global automation strategy by bringing together its major automation activities under a newly established Automation business unit. The organizational change took effect on October 1, 2026, combining Customer Services, Factory Automation, Motion Control and Process Automation into one organization.

The new structure reflects an important development in the industrial automation industry. Automation technologies are increasingly moving beyond traditional control hardware toward integrated platforms that combine PLCs, motion control, process automation, industrial software, data and artificial intelligence.
For manufacturers, this integration is becoming increasingly important as factories demand more flexible and connected production systems. Traditional PLC, motion control and process automation technologies are no longer operating as completely independent areas. Modern industrial facilities increasingly require automation systems capable of connecting controllers, machines, production data, edge computing and enterprise software.
Industrial AI is also becoming an important part of this transformation. AI-assisted engineering, predictive analytics and intelligent production optimization can help manufacturers improve operational efficiency while reducing engineering and maintenance workloads.
The development also creates new opportunities for PLC engineers, system integrators and automation equipment suppliers. Future automation projects are likely to require expertise across multiple layers, including PLC programming, industrial networking, process control, data management, edge computing and AI-enabled applications.

Siemens’ latest automation strategy reflects the broader transformation of the industry toward integrated and software-driven industrial control. As manufacturers modernize aging production equipment and build smarter factories, demand for advanced PLC, DCS, motion control and industrial automation technologies is expected to continue growing.
