ABB is expanding its industrial automation portfolio through its planned acquisition of Rotork, a major supplier of intelligent flow control solutions and electric actuators. The transaction is one of the most significant recent developments in the process automation sector and could have a long-term impact on industrial control, instrumentation, and automation solutions.

The agreement was announced in July 2026, with the transaction valued at approximately $5.5 billion. The deal is expected to strengthen ABB’s position in automation by adding Rotork’s expertise in electric actuators, flow control, and instrumentation to its existing portfolio.
For process industries, the development is particularly important because actuators play a critical role between industrial control systems and physical equipment.
