Schneider Electric Announces Major France Investment As Industrial Automation Manufacturing Evolves

Schneider Electric is investing €150 million in France as part of a broader restructuring of its industrial manufacturing network. The investment demonstrates how major industrial automation companies are adapting manufacturing capacity while continuing to support electrification, digitalization, and smart factory development.

The company plans to close its Chasseneuil-du-Poitou factory by March 2028, with production expected to be transferred primarily to its Dijon facility. Schneider Electric also plans to establish a new site in Evreux that will combine manufacturing and research and development activities currently distributed across several locations in Normandy.

The development comes at a time when the global industrial automation industry is undergoing significant changes. Manufacturers are facing pressure to improve productivity, reduce energy consumption, strengthen supply chains, and increase production flexibility.

Modern automation factories increasingly combine PLC controllers, industrial networks, variable frequency drives, motion control systems, sensors, HMIs, robotics, and manufacturing software. These technologies allow production equipment to communicate with one another while providing operators and engineers with real-time information about factory performance.

The integration of electrification and automation is also becoming increasingly important. Industrial facilities are no longer treating electrical distribution, energy management, automation, and production control as completely separate systems. Instead, these technologies are being connected to create more efficient and intelligent industrial environments.

For manufacturers upgrading their automation infrastructure, this trend creates demand for complete control architectures rather than individual components alone. PLCs and DCS platforms remain central to industrial control, while industrial Ethernet, remote I/O, intelligent drives, sensors, edge computing, and data platforms extend system connectivity.

Legacy automation equipment is also expected to remain important for many industrial plants. Existing PLC modules, communication boards, control cards, power modules, sensors, and interface components can often remain in operation for many years. At the same time, newer automation technologies can be integrated into existing systems to improve connectivity and monitoring.

This creates opportunities for industrial automation suppliers and system integrators specializing in modernization, replacement components, control system upgrades, and automation engineering.

The Schneider Electric investment also highlights the importance of manufacturing efficiency at the equipment-supplier level. As automation technologies become more sophisticated, manufacturers must optimize their own production facilities to meet changing customer requirements and maintain competitive operating costs.

Smart manufacturing is therefore developing on multiple levels. Industrial companies are automating their production lines, while automation equipment manufacturers are also transforming their own factories and supply chains.

The continued combination of industrial automation, electrification, digital technologies, and intelligent manufacturing will remain a major trend in the global market. For PLC, DCS, SCADA, drive, sensor, and industrial control system suppliers, this evolution is creating new opportunities across both new installations and existing plant modernization projects.
