China National Intellectual Property Administration data shows that ABB Schweiz AG has filed a patent titled “Flow Computer Remote Terminal Unit with Modular Software Architecture” (Publication No. CN121681037A), with a filing date of September 2025.

According to the abstract, the invention relates to a flow computer remote terminal unit (RTU) featuring a modular software architecture. The system includes an RTU management framework that runs multiple application instances responsible for managing industrial operations at one or more industrial facilities.

The framework receives input device information from various field devices and manages multiple application instances in a partitioned memory environment, separating the framework from the applications. A scheduler within the framework determines which application instances should process specific input data and distributes the relevant information accordingly.

This architecture enables more efficient coordination of industrial operations, improved data handling, and optimized management of distributed industrial processes through flexible and modular software control.
