As a long-standing participant attending the China International Import Expo for eight consecutive years, ABB Ltd Robotics once again showcased multiple locally developed new products at this year’s event. The expo has become a key platform connecting the company with the Chinese market and strengthening industry collaboration.
During an interview, ABB Group Senior Vice President and Head of Robotics in China, Han Chen, stated that the Import Expo is one of the company’s most anticipated annual events. He noted that the platform has enabled ABB to launch more than 320 new products historically and sign over 110 cooperation agreements with customers, significantly enhancing engagement with both new and existing partners while accelerating technology promotion and adoption.
With more than 30 years of presence in China, ABB Robotics continues to strengthen its full value-chain localization strategy. Currently, over 80% of its supply chain in China is sourced locally. Han emphasized that the Chinese robotics industry has developed a “co-opetition” ecosystem, where domestic and international players compete while jointly driving industry advancement.
He also highlighted ABB’s deep localization efforts, with the Shanghai Pudong mega factory serving as a core innovation hub. In addition, the company is increasing R&D investment in Zhuhai, further integrating into the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta advanced manufacturing clusters, two of China’s most important smart manufacturing regions.
Overall, ABB stated that the Chinese robotics market continues to offer significant growth opportunities, supported by strong industrial ecosystems, accelerating automation demand, and deepening collaboration between global and local partners.
