The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released the 2025 Green Manufacturing list, on which Shanghai ABB Motor Co., Ltd., a joint venture under Shanghai Electromechanical, has been recognized as a “National-Level Green Factory.” The recognition highlights the company’s achievements in green operations, energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and technological innovation, marking its entry into China’s top tier of green manufacturing benchmarks.
Since its establishment in 1995, ABB Motor has embedded sustainability into its core strategy, continuously advancing low-carbon transformation and energy-efficient manufacturing practices.
In production operations, the company has implemented multiple energy-saving initiatives. In the coating process, it fully adopts water-based paints and exhaust gas recovery systems to reduce VOC emissions at the source while improving coating efficiency and lowering raw material consumption. The deployment of the ABB Ability™ energy management system leverages big data and artificial intelligence to optimize energy usage, achieving energy savings of over 55%. In addition, an intelligent sensor-based roller shutter system precisely controls logistics area operations, reducing energy loss by more than 60% annually and saving significant operational costs.
In energy structure optimization, the company has established a photovoltaic power generation system that has generated over 10 million kWh of electricity, effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions while lowering electricity costs. Overall energy intensity continues to decline, demonstrating consistent progress in sustainable operations.
In collaborative sustainability efforts, ABB Motor is a core member of the Green Co-creation Alliance in Shanghai’s Minhang Development Zone. The company actively participates in carbon reduction initiatives such as World Environment Day and Car-Free Day campaigns, extending sustainability practices into the wider industrial park ecosystem. It has been recognized as a “Green and Low-Carbon Practitioner” for three consecutive years, contributing to the development of a near-zero-carbon industrial park.
Company representatives stated that receiving the National-Level Green Factory designation is both a recognition of ABB Motor’s long-term sustainability efforts and a benchmark for the motor industry’s green transformation. Looking ahead, the company will continue to strengthen technological innovation and end-to-end green upgrades, supporting decarbonization across industries and contributing further to China’s manufacturing transition toward low-carbon development.
