ABB Switzerland Ltd has applied for a patent titled “Current Transformer And Switchgear Including The Same” (Publication No. CN121662568A, filed September 2024), according to the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

The invention relates to a current transformer integrated into switchgear, featuring a molded transformer body, an embedded current conversion component, and a primary conductor with first and second terminals. Either terminal can serve as an input or output connection, while one terminal is designed to function as a stationary contact.

By integrating the terminal as a stationary contact, the design eliminates the need for separate conductors and standalone contact components found in conventional systems. This reduces part count, simplifies assembly, and lowers overall system cost.

The solution also integrates a temperature measurement module, enabling more accurate monitoring of contact temperature at the stationary and moving contacts, as well as adjacent electrical components such as busbars or copper conductors. This enhances thermal management and operational safety in switchgear applications.
