Honeywell Advances Energy Efficiency And Carbon Reduction In China’s Building Sector Through Smart Building Technologies

During the 8th China International Import Expo, Chen Yan, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Building Technologies Greater China, stated in an interview that low-carbon smart buildings represent an irreversible industry trend, with significant potential for energy efficiency and carbon reduction in the construction sector.

Chen noted that China is continuously strengthening energy efficiency standards for new buildings, accelerating retrofitting of existing structures, and promoting ultra-low-energy and near-zero-energy buildings. At the same time, with the growing influence of ESG investment principles, the green operational performance of building assets is receiving increasing attention.

He emphasized that for the commercial real estate sector, achieving low-carbon building operations while enhancing asset value has become a critical challenge. Improvements in energy efficiency and operational performance can deliver immediate and measurable economic benefits for enterprises.

At this year’s CIIE, Honeywell Building Technologies showcased its next-generation digital building operations solutions and the Optimizer series controllers, designed to enhance operational efficiency and enable smarter building management.

According to the company, these solutions are not only applicable to traditional building scenarios such as office buildings, retail complexes, hotels, and residential properties, but can also be extended to high-end manufacturing facilities, data centers, and highly regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.

Looking ahead, Chen highlighted three key trends shaping the building industry: first, green and sustainable development will remain the core driving force; second, digitalization still holds significant untapped potential, especially in post-deployment operational capabilities across building systems; and third, full lifecycle efficiency and value optimization will become a major industry focus.

He added that as a digital industrial technology company, Honeywell is leveraging hardware, software, data, and services to help the building sector achieve continuous emissions reduction and cost optimization throughout the full asset lifecycle.

Regarding future expansion, Chen noted that China already leads globally in areas such as renewable energy and energy storage, while advanced manufacturing sectors including semiconductors and life sciences are also experiencing rapid growth—areas where Honeywell has strong capabilities.

He concluded that the company will continue to develop technologies tailored to Chinese market needs, integrate global expertise with local innovation, and work closely with partners in China to drive industrial upgrading and sustainable development.
