Honeywell has announced the successful commissioning of China’s largest and highest-yield sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility, developed in collaboration with one of the country’s leading biofuel producers, Zhejiang Jiaao Enprotech Stock Co., Ltd. (“Jiaao Enprotech”).
The plant uses Honeywell’s Ecofining technology to convert approximately 10,000 barrels per day (around 500,000 tons annually) of waste cooking oil into sustainable aviation fuel. Through localized cooperation in process technology and catalyst development, the project achieves higher conversion efficiency and scalable production capacity, helping reduce production costs while meeting the growing global demand for low-carbon aviation fuel.
According to Sun Jianneng, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Energy and Sustainability Solutions in China, the partnership represents a major milestone in advancing the large-scale adoption of renewable fuels. It also addresses one of the industry’s key challenges—high cost premiums associated with SAF production.
He added that Honeywell continues to optimize catalyst technologies to increase yields, expand eligible feedstock options, and further reduce the overall cost of sustainable aviation fuel production.
The successful commissioning of this facility marks a significant step forward in scaling China’s SAF industry and provides an important technological pathway to support global aviation decarbonization goals.
