ABB has officially commenced construction of its Transmission Nanjing Campus project in the Jiangning Economic and Technological Development Zone, marking a significant milestone in the company’s continued expansion in China’s industrial automation and power transmission sector.

The project represents ABB’s strategic investment in strengthening its motion control and industrial drive capabilities in one of China’s most important manufacturing hubs. According to official project information, the new campus will focus on the research, development, and production of industrial motion control and drive products, including advanced variable speed drive technologies widely used in energy, infrastructure, metallurgy, and process industries.

The Nanjing campus is designed as a comprehensive smart manufacturing base integrating production, R&D, and customer experience functions. It will include a highly automated manufacturing center, a collaborative innovation and engineering center, and a digital customer application and testing center. Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly enhance ABB’s ability to respond quickly to demand from customers across East and South China.

The project is being developed in phases, with construction starting in 2026. ABB plans to introduce advanced global drive technologies into the Chinese market while simultaneously accelerating local innovation and application development. The campus will also support digitalization and energy efficiency initiatives aligned with modern industrial sustainability standards.

As part of ABB’s broader “in China, for China” strategy, the Nanjing investment further strengthens the company’s localized production and R&D footprint. China remains one of ABB’s largest and most important global markets, and the new campus is expected to further consolidate its leadership position in the industrial drive and motion control segment.

Industry observers note that Jiangning Development Zone has become a key base for high-end equipment manufacturing and intelligent industry clusters, providing strong infrastructure, supply chain integration, and talent support for global technology companies investing in the region.
