SICK Launches AI-Powered 3D Machine Vision For Industrial Quality Inspection

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important in industrial inspection, and SICK has introduced new AI-powered capabilities for 3D machine vision and automated quality control.

In August 2026, SICK expanded its Nova machine vision platform with configurable AI-powered 3D quality inspection technology. The new capabilities combine deep learning with detailed three-dimensional height data to support more advanced inspection applications.

Traditional machine vision systems often rely on two-dimensional images to identify defects, verify components or check product appearance. While 2D vision remains useful for many applications, some manufacturing processes require information about an object’s height, shape or three-dimensional geometry.

SICK’s latest development combines 3D image processing with artificial intelligence, allowing industrial inspection systems to analyze both visual characteristics and spatial information.

The technology is designed to make advanced quality inspection easier to configure and customize. This can be particularly useful in manufacturing environments where product variations, complex geometries and changing production requirements make traditional fixed-rule inspection difficult to maintain.

Potential applications include electronics manufacturing, battery production, automotive manufacturing, consumer goods and other automated production environments.

For industrial automation engineers, the development demonstrates how machine vision, sensors and PLC systems are becoming increasingly interconnected.
