Siemens is strengthening its position in the global industrial automation market with a major organizational change that brings several automation businesses together under a newly established Automation unit. The change was announced in August 2026 and is scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.

Under the new structure, Siemens will combine Customer Services, Factory Automation, Motion Control and Process Automation into one unified organization. Rainer Brehm has been appointed President of the new Automation unit and will report directly to Cedrik Neike, CEO of Siemens Digital Industries.
The move reflects a broader transformation taking place across the industrial automation industry. Manufacturers are no longer looking at PLC controllers, motion systems, process control, industrial software and artificial intelligence as completely separate technologies. Instead, companies increasingly want integrated automation architectures that connect control hardware, engineering software, production data and AI applications.
