ABB has officially commenced construction of its Transmission Nanjing Park project in the Jiangning Development Zone of Nanjing, marking a significant milestone in the company’s continued expansion in China’s industrial automation and motion control market. The project is designed to strengthen ABB’s local manufacturing footprint while accelerating the development of advanced smart manufacturing capabilities in East China.

According to official project information, the ABB Transmission Nanjing Park is a key strategic investment in Jiangsu Province and represents ABB’s only wholly owned manufacturing project in the region. The initiative focuses on industrial motion control products, including variable-speed drive systems widely used in sectors such as metallurgy, oil and gas, power generation, HVAC, and other heavy industrial applications.

The new industrial park will integrate multiple core functions, including intelligent production, R&D innovation, and digital customer experience. ABB plans to build three major platforms within the facility: an intelligent manufacturing center, a collaborative research and development center, and a digital customer experience center. These platforms are designed to enable faster response to customer demand across China’s eastern and southern regions.

The project will be implemented in phases and aims to establish a highly automated, data-driven and energy-efficient manufacturing base. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to serve as a “smart factory benchmark,” combining advanced production systems with digital engineering and lifecycle service capabilities. ABB also plans to establish a dedicated transmission product R&D center during the first phase, introducing global-leading variable frequency drive technologies and accelerating localized innovation.

As a global leader in electrification and automation technologies, ABB continues to deepen its investment in China, which has become its second-largest market worldwide. The company’s motion control division, including its drive systems business, is a core segment of ABB’s industrial portfolio, supporting energy efficiency and precision control across critical industries.

Industry analysts note that the Nanjing project reflects a broader trend of high-end manufacturing upgrading in the Yangtze River Delta region, where smart factories, industrial digitalization, and green manufacturing are becoming key development priorities. The Jiangning Development Zone has increasingly attracted advanced equipment manufacturers and automation enterprises, forming a growing ecosystem for intelligent industrial production.

With the launch of the ABB Transmission Nanjing Park project, ABB further strengthens its “in China, for China” strategy, reinforcing its long-term commitment to local innovation, supply chain integration, and sustainable industrial development.

The project is expected to play a significant role in promoting regional industrial upgrading and supporting China’s broader transition toward high-efficiency, low-carbon smart manufacturing systems.
