Universal Robots has launched its seventh-generation robotics platform, introducing new collaborative robot hardware and software designed for advanced industrial automation applications. The new platform combines increased computing capability, sensing technologies, updated control hardware, and AI-ready features.

The Gen 7 platform includes three new g-Series collaborative robots: the UR10g-1750, UR17g-1300, and UR18g-950. The different models are designed to address various payload and reach requirements, giving manufacturers more options for machine tending, assembly, material handling, inspection, and other production tasks.
One of the key developments is the AI-ready tool flange. The new design can provide data, power, and safety directly at the robot tool, making it easier to integrate cameras, sensors, and other high-bandwidth devices. This capability is increasingly important as industrial robots are combined with machine vision and AI-based applications.
The platform also introduces an updated CB7 Core controller. With additional computing capabilities and a compact design, the controller is intended to support more demanding robotic applications while maintaining connectivity with industrial automation systems.
Communication with PLCs, HMIs, manufacturing systems, industrial PCs, and vision equipment is becoming increasingly important in modern factories. Robots are no longer isolated production machines; instead, they are becoming connected components within integrated automation architectures.
The Gen 7 platform also incorporates force-torque sensing, impedance control, and real-time data capabilities. These technologies can support applications that require precise physical interaction, including force-sensitive assembly, inspection, and advanced material handling.
The launch reflects the continued convergence of collaborative robotics, PLC control, machine vision, industrial networking, and artificial intelligence. As manufacturers seek more flexible production systems, AI-ready robots can become an important component of connected manufacturing environments.

For system integrators and industrial manufacturers, the latest generation of collaborative robotics provides additional possibilities for developing flexible automation cells and smart manufacturing solutions.
