It is part of the Altivar Process ATV650 series and is intended for industrial process applications such as pumps, fans, compressors, water treatment systems and HVAC equipment. By adjusting the motor output frequency and voltage, the drive can provide stable process control while helping optimize motor operation.

2. What motor power can the ATV650D75N4 support?
The ATV650D75N4 is rated for motors up to 75 kW (100 HP) under Normal Duty conditions. For Heavy Duty applications, the applicable motor rating is 55 kW (75 HP). Motor selection should not be based only on the motor’s nominal power. The motor rated current, load torque, acceleration requirements, operating temperature and overload conditions should also be considered to ensure that the drive has sufficient capacity for the actual application.

3. What are the input power requirements of the ATV650D75N4?
The drive requires a 380–480 VAC, three-phase power supply with a frequency of 50–60 Hz. Before installation, the incoming supply should be checked to ensure that the voltage is within the permitted operating range. Proper circuit protection, cable sizing, grounding and short-circuit protection must also be provided according to the installation requirements. The maximum prospective line short-circuit current for this model is 50 kA.

4. What are the output current and frequency ranges of the ATV650D75N4?
The ATV650D75N4 provides a continuous output current of up to 145 A under Normal Duty conditions and 87 A under Heavy Duty conditions. Its output frequency can be adjusted from 0.1 to 500 Hz. The drive can also provide short-duration overload current, with a maximum transient current of approximately 159.5 A for Normal Duty and 132 A for Heavy Duty for up to 60 seconds. Actual output capability depends on switching frequency, ambient temperature and load characteristics.

5. Which types of motors and control modes are supported?
The ATV650D75N4 supports both asynchronous and synchronous motors. Its control functions can be configured for variable-torque and constant-torque applications, as well as permanent magnet synchronous and synchronous reluctance motors. Correct motor parameter configuration is important for stable operation. 6. Can the ATV650D75N4 communicate with PLC and DCS systems?
Yes. The ATV650D75N4 supports Ethernet, Modbus TCP and Modbus Serial RS-485 communication. 7. How should an overcurrent or overload fault be diagnosed?
When an overcurrent or overload fault occurs, first check whether the driven mechanical equipment is blocked, overloaded or experiencing abnormal friction. If the fault occurs mainly during acceleration, check whether the acceleration time is too short or whether the load requires excessive starting torque. The motor cable should also be inspected for short circuits, grounding problems, loose connections or incorrect wiring. Motor nameplate data and drive parameters should be verified as well. Persistent overcurrent faults may require inspection of the motor insulation and mechanical load conditions.

8. What is the purpose of the STO safety function on the ATV650D75N4?
The ATV650D75N4 includes Safe Torque Off (STO) with SIL 3 capability. STO is designed to prevent the motor from generating driving torque when the safety system is activated, making it suitable for safety interlocks and emergency-stop-related applications. STO should not be considered a replacement for complete electrical isolation. Before maintenance, wiring work or component replacement, the drive should still be properly isolated from the power supply and the absence of dangerous voltage should be verified according to the site’s safety procedures.
